0:00:00 Badge and Item Build 0:01:03 Dark Traveler 0:12:25 Dark Shieldbearer 0:15:43 Dark Collective 0:32:13 Dark Aspirant 0:36:16 Dark Revenant 0:54:48 Dark Summoner 1:00:39 Dark Replicator 1:17:31 Shadeblade Out of all my Curse showcases, this is probably my most meticulously planned one yet. I had a couple previous attempts at this rush that were able to make it decently far, but it was still a fair ways away from being accomplished. The issue was that I was running out of items too early. However, through trial and error, and I was able to optimize my items to the best possible degree that I could. Just like with the Normal Boss Rush, the item and badge build for the Dark Boss Rush has to be planned around every single fight that takes place, one after another. Hammer Throw is used as it allows me to hit the Traveler and the Aspirant safely from a distance. Mega Bounce is used to have high damage for the Replicator and Shadeblade. Truth Stomp was initially for better damage against the Collective, but now I probably don't need it. However, it's also good against the Shieldbearer if it gets turns and starts increasing its Defense. I use the FP Repository build so that I can limit usage of items where possible, and both Dark Shield and Stellar Shield are together since I want to make sure Dark Shield stays active. Unlike the individual fights in the Temple of Darkness, the Star Spirits CAN help you during the Dark Boss Rush. This is a very big thing to note! The items are very straightforward. To make sure I can have consistent regen, I load up on 10 Yoshi Biscuits and then 10 Cake Items. It does remove all possible forms of insurance though since I have no Life Shrooms or Last Chance equipped. Miracle is the only way I can survive a lethal hit in a battle (which can only be procced once per battle). However, if you're not playing too aggressively this won't be a problem. You can't exactly afford to play very aggressively in this rush anyways. The Traveler is pretty simple. Play defensively and make sure to not use any items in this fight. The strength of the FP Repository build is immediate here since Smooch only costs 8 FP for a 20 HP restoration. Parakerry's Sky Dive is great for conserving FP since succeeding the action command for it restores 1 FP in Dark Star Edition. The Shieldbearer is also pretty easy. It only gains Defense if it's actually able to move, and it's vulnerable to Stop. Use Stellar Nova Time Out to put it out of commission for 6 turns and pummel it down quickly. Use 1 Biscuit and an Ultra Shroom Cake here to ensure you KO it as fast as possible. The Collective is interesting because although it is Aerial, it can actually be hit by regular Hammer Strikes. It also fails to spawn Fragments after a certain point as long as you don't jump on it. Play defensively and don't use any items here. Fun fact: the failing to spawn Fragments after said certain point is the reason this individual fight is possible on 9x (it's even possible on 9x without Dark Shield). The Aspirant is pretty easy as long as you don't let it use Bolt Storm. Use your second Biscuit and Ultra Shroom Cake here. The Revenant is slow to get through, but it's actually free with Dark Shield active because its damage output doesn't consistently exceed 20 even in the final phase. Have Misstar continuously make love with Mario and you have a slow but sure win without using any items. The Summoner is simple once the Green Bit goes down. Star Storm and certain partner moves (i.e. Shell Shot) have exactly enough damage to KO the Red Bit which is always prioritized first in summoning. Your 3rd Biscuit and 1st Dark Shroom Cake gets used here in preparation for the next fight. The Replicator is very dumb, and not in a good way. 30 HP means 30 Replications, for an effective HP total of 900. They aren't too threatening if you keep Cake Regen, but this fight is a big item hog. 4 Biscuits and 4 Dark Shroom Cakes are used here to make sure you can take out the Replications as they come. Shout out goes to Stellar Nova Star Storm here as that lets us deal 14 Damage to all Replications in a single turn. Add Power Bomb and you have 21 damage in 1 round. Shadeblade is a mechanically challenging fight because of the whole "You can no longer press B" Reality Tear. Mega Bounce had a bit of utility in the Replicator fight, but it really shines here. As long as you make sure Cloud Nine is active during the Lightning attacks, you should be fairly safe from all attacks. Use Curse to drop its Defense and let rip with Mega Bounce. Try to sneak a couple of Hustle Spells in as well so you can really keep pumping out damage in this fight. Any items you have saved up to this point get used here to ensure you can sustain through all attacks as they continue to get stronger. Side note, but yes I did intentionally not KO close to the end there to show what happens when the 3rd Reality Tear occurs.
