For the first time, the man shot by police in a shooting later ruled unjustified publicly shared his story. Gabriel Cota, 43, and his family spoke from his attorney’s office in Sandy about the lasting impact of the shooting, which occurred more than a year and a half ago and left Cota with serious injuries. His attorney said criminal charges against the officer involved are possible, and a civil lawsuit is expected to be filed in the coming days. Cota was shot twice by former Saratoga Springs police officer Dean Sekona during a traffic stop. According to a report from the Utah County Attorney’s Office, the shooting was not justified.
