This performance by David Tall was given on Sunday 9th October 2022, as the second of two concerts celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Beauchamp Sinfonietta. It was recorded by David's grandson James Tall. The Beauchamp Sinfonietta was formed by its leader Brian Brown and orchestral manager Peter Chadwick to offer organised orchestral accompaniment for local choral and operatic societies. David Tall was invited to be principal conductor for the first orchestral concert promoted by the Beauchamp at Leamington Spa Centre on September 9th 1972. The 50th anniversary concert was a celebration of the variety of music played over the years by Nic Fallowfield who has been the conductor of the orchestra since 1993. David Tall was invited to conduct this Lento for Strings to represent Malcolm Williamson, who became the President of the Beauchamp Sinfonietta in 1974 and Master of the Queen's Music in 1975. The Lento was composed in memory of Paul McDermott in 1985, who conducted Malcolm's music on disc.
