Our tramps take us along valleys carved by glaciers, over rugged mountain passes and traversing thru bluffs and across a glacier to reach a remote. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART ONE A fine weather window gave us a great opportunity to spend longer than expected above the bush line avoiding the sandflies and enjoying the fabulous views! We had given ourselves plenty of lay days if the weather wasn't great which made for a very relaxed, laid back trip when we stuck this great weather window. A heavy dump of snow earlier in the week validated us carrying crampons & ice axes but in the end most had melted before we reached the tops. A chopper from Makarora dropped us off at Albert Burn Hut and we spent a leisurely three days walking up the valley before crossing Albert Burn Saddle to camp below the saddle for a couple of days. Strong winds and showers had us then dropping into the East Matukituki here we enjoyed more fine weather to climb Sisyphus Peak and then walk out to Raspberry Creek. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART TWO I start from Raspberry Creek carpark and climb over Cascade Saddle to Dart Hut while the rest of the crew walk up the Dart from Chinamans Bluff. Over the next few days we make our way to Rees Saddle, explore up the Snowy Creek to the Tyndall Glacier and continue down the Rees river valley to climb up to Kea Basin and camp. 👉 Watch • Heavy packs & great camping - Cascade Sadd... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART THREE This day trip has us climbing from Kea Basin above the Rees Valley to Esquilant Biv in a col below Mt Earnslaw. This cairned climbers route weaves its way thru the glaciated bluffs below the Birley Glacier before crossing the remnants of the glacier to reach Wright Col which provides access to Esquilant Biv and the climbing routes around the twin peaks of Earnslaw. 👉 Watch • Bluffs & Ice, Climbing from Kea Basin to E... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART FOUR Next we sidle south around Mt Earnslaw, negotiating huge swaths of windthrow and climb over Lennox Pass into the Earnslaw Burn and exit to the roadend. 👉 Watch • Brutal Windthrow almost broke me! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can view more of our images and an interactive map of the trip here: https://www.getoutdoorsnz.kiwi/trampi... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MUSIC Brighter Days by Oliver Massa, The Weekend, Dig the Uke by Stefan Kartenberg, The Whip, Living Life, Sunshine, Cheerful Cinematic song, In the Now, Adventure Alive, Hey oh young 0:00 Intro 0:44 Day One Albert Burn hut to campsite 2:18 Day Two - camping in the mid reaches of the Albert Burn 3:50 Day Three - camping in the Upper Albert Burn 5:53 Day Four - Camping on the tops 8:50 Day Five - relaxed day on the tops 10:16 Day Six - Junction Flat 12:35 Day Seven - Aspiring Flat 15:08 Day Eight - Climbing Sisyphus Peak 18:58 Day Nine - Camping on the river flats 21:20 Day Ten - walk out to Raspberry Creek
