Se non venisse fatta la potatura si creerebbe una condizione favorevole alle muffe e anche ad instaurarsi dei parassiti. 🇬🇧 The hazelnut is a plant, a shrub, so trimming it is about thinning the branches that get in the way. Branches that block the sunlight from penetrating to the interior of the bush that would otherwise create perfect conditions for mould and also for parasites to get a foothold, if pruning wasn’t carried out. At the moment I’m finishing the pruning that has already been carried out. The suckers, new shoots that develop at the base of the trunk have already been trimmed away and larger branches, which obviously you can't cut with shears like these. What I’m doing now is cutting these internal branches, the ones that cut out the light on the inside of the bush. Hazelnuts need regular maintenance to create and maintain this bushy bit so that it stays healthy, so that the interior receives air and sun. You also need to maintain a harmonious form, which is important for mechanical harvesting but also for the shrub itself and for a question of aesthetics.
