Oath of the Gatewatch Standard is here! Before we get into Boros Equipments or B/W Allies or Izzet Prowess or the many other high-demand decks we'll be covering soon, Dev has decided to kick off the season by bringing you a pet project of his - Big Red, and he thinks it might actually have a real shot in the new standard. Creatures (15) 2 Dragonmaster Outcast 4 Hangarback Walker 3 Pia and Kiran Nalaar 4 Thunderbreak Regent 2 Goblin Dark Dwellers Planeswalkers (4) 2 Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker 2 Chandra, Flamecaller Spells (16) 3 Fiery Impulse 2 Wild Slash 1 Roast 4 Draconic Roar 4 Exquisite Firecraft 2 Hordeling Outburst Lands (25) 4 Blighted Gorge 2 Sea Gate Wreckage 19 Mountain Sideboard 2 Rending Volley 2 Wild Slash 2 Roast 2 Arc Lightning 3 Scab-Clan Berserker 2 Outpost Siege 2 Hordeling Outburst The idea is simple: Removal and big guys. Seems easy, but the deck is quite versatile and has many different paths to victory. We can make huge flyers with Dragonmaster Outcast, swing in with a haste Sarkhan, fly over with Thunderbreak Regent, exploit Hangarback Walkers and deal guaranteed damage with Pia and Kiran, beat them to death with Chandra's elementals, or even burn them to 0! Now that's a lot win conditions! We've got plenty of removal to cover the early game (plus Hangarback Walker to gum up the board), and when we get to the midgame, we can go wide with tokens, pressure with Sarkhan or Thunderbreak Regent, or recast burn with Dark Dwellers. In the Late game, Chandra and Sea Gate Wreckage provide some much needed card advantage to refuel our hands, which is nice, because just about every card in this deck is gas.
