A Step in Time Part 11! Preserved West Yorkshire PTE Leyland Olympian/Roe 5504/B144RWY

Recorded date - 17/7/2022 Preserved West Yorkshire PTE 5504/B144RWY Leyland Olympian ONLXB/1R/Roe This year North Yorkshire independent Connexions reached their 20th year as a company and to mark the occasion they had a celebration in the form of an event at Wetherby Racecourse with a free service running between the racecourse and York, Wetherby and Harrogate using various preserved buses. Having arrived at the racecourse and managed to photograph what was in attendance at the event I then boarded this Leyland Olympian which comes with the Roe bodywork instead of the usual ECW body, new as 5504/B144RWY in 1984 it's the latest surviving Roe body built with body number GO8857 with the last one built being GO8859. The Roe works closed down before the bus was completed so it was transferred to ECW (Eastern Coach Works) at Lowestoft to be finished, it was first registered in August 1984 and was new as a Metrocoach for private hires and express work along with the other five of the batch and is preserved in its as new livery. It's recorded performing faultlessly on a service from Wetherby Racecourse to Harrogate via Wetherby Town Centre.
