HISTORY: Hoysala architecture is the building style in Hindu temple architecture developed under the rule of the Hoysala Empire between the 11th and 14th centuries, in the region known today as Karnataka, a state of India. Large and small temples built during this era remain as examples of the Hoysala architectural style. Of the various Hoysala temples, 3 temples have been included under UNESCO World Heritage sites in September 2023 taking the tally of UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES in INDIA TO 42 (6th in the world), including : 1. the Chennakesava Temple at Belur, 2. the Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu, 3. the Kesava Temple at Somanathapura. HOW TO REACH? 1. Belur town is located at distance of 150 km from Mysuru and 220Km from Bengaluru. You can easily reach by road. 2. belur and Halebidu are located nearby at distance of 15km from each other. 3. Somnathpura is located at distance of 35km from Mysuru.
