Homepage of BasscoverPete https://basscoverpete.com/ The ‘secret’ of this bassline is in my opinion the bended notes in the groove. In the first bar (F chord) it’s about the B and C on the third and fourth count. In The Bb chord it’s about the E and F on the third and fourth count. I tried to listen carefully which notes are played in the maingroove and I see a lot of different grooves on the internet, but I’m quite sure that this is the right maingroove (for instance bar 1 for the F chords and bar 7for the Bb chord). I also likes the lines he plays as a variation. For instance bar 14 where he starts with an F and bends it with a F sharp and in the end of this bar he slides the A flat tot he G. Great! He does this smae ‘trick’ in bar 60 where he slides from D to C and from D flat to C. Another great lick is in bars 69-70. Gordy plays mainly the maingroove and that’s why his variations gets attention when it’s needed. On first sight/ear I thought that this was a straight forward bassline, but the combination of a steady maingroove and very nice variations makes this bassline very interesting in my opinion. You never van tell, also know as C’est la Vie or Teenage Wedding is written by Chuck Berry in the sixties, and covered by Emmylou Harris in 1976.
