Robert C Richmond on the site "Yeah, I can play the Autoharp" posted a photograph of flowers, mainly lupins and suggested that someone might play and or sing a song appropriate to the photo. Yesterday morning I thought I wonder if I can do English Country Garden on the autoharp, so after returning from my walk I gave it a go and this is the result, which I feel is not too bad for a first effort. The tune is a traditional English one collected by Cecil Sharpe. The song itself has lyrics that were sung by Jimmie Rodgers in the 1950s, (not to be confused with the earlier country singer of the same name). These lyrics however were obviously written by someone on the American side of 'the pond' as most of the flowers, birds and other creatures mentioned are not to be found in an English country garden as they are not native to this side of 'the pond'. We do have some of them, but most are not found here. Lupins are, but are spelled and pronounced differently not lupines as in America. These points aside, I fell in love with this song as a youngster and in fact bought my first ever LP album on the strength of this one track.
