Greetings! If you like this video, please remember to hit like, subscribe, and the notification bell. Thank you for watching ! ! An historical, vignette-style video of this timeless English folk tune arranged for guitar quartet ensemble. *NOTES ON THE ARRANGEMENT: This version is based on the admirable transcription for guitar duo by Vladimir Bobri (1898-1986). It was first published in, "Two Guitars: A Galaxy of Duets for Guitar" (Macmillan Publishing Company, June 1972) I used a "capo" to raise the key one half-step, added some textural harmonies + guitaristic effects, played freely with Bobri's contrapuntal spacings, and preserved a few lines from Percy Grainger's 1918 piano score. The piece's original structure (as quoted before the commencement of Grainger's piano setting) has (as a rule) been customarily altered by NEARLY ALL subsequent arrangers. As a matter of fact, Grainger turned the original order upside down: 'A' became 'C', and vice versa. The same treatment applies here with three, small, deviations : 1. I used both Grainger's AND Bobri's endings for the original 'A'' section... 2. The 'B' section has an unusual repeat in the 2nd pizzicato sequence in order to prolong diminution... 3. The piece does not ordinarily end with a Plagual cadence, but seemed a nice fit here. *Please leave a comment. Key: Db See video for complete credits and personnel acknowledgements.
