Resume Writing: Your Resume MUST Include Accomplishments Why your resume isn't working, and adding accomplishments to the resume. I refer to this in another video I produced, "Why Your Resume Needs to Align With the Job Description." This is the other pitfall I see on people's resumes where they do not have any accomplishments listed. For people with a sales background this tends to be a little easier to come up with. For other industries, you need to outline what your accomplishments are. What are those things you have done that sets you apart from other candidates? What value did you add to the company? What changes did you make since you were working there? What did you take the initiative to do? What did you see that needed to be done, and you jumped in and did it? Did you improve a process? What are those things that you did along the way that can show an employer the true value of hiring you. If all you're doing on your resume is simply copying and pasting the job descriptions from your past positions, and everyone else is doing that too, then how can an employer really understand why they should hire you? An employer is comparing your resume with the other applicants. Your resume documents your history, but it is also being compared with the other resumes the hiring manager has received. If your accomplishments show that you can solve a problem that the hiring manager is currently having, then they'll call you for an interview. What this looks like on the resume is that you have 2-3 bullet points under the basic description of the job (the number of people that you managed, what you did, if you managed a team of people). Then under that, have a separate section that you label Accomplishments. You want the hiring manager to easily find them, so you don't want to just lump them together. You want them to stand out, and putting them in a separate section makes them stand out. I have an in-depth course teaching you how to fix the 5 things you're doing wrong in your job search.
