No more dirty trousers or trapped fingers – the super practical Hebie chainguard is designed to protect the chain on the woom ORIGINAL 2 and the woom ORIGINAL 3 (models dating between November 2018 and November 2020) from dirt, debris and inclement weather. This chainguard is very easy to take on and off if your child happens to get a flat tyre. In this video we'll take you through the construction of the chainguard and explain how to install and remove it in just a few moves. Is your woom bike fitted with a different sort of chainguard than the one in the video? Our woom bikes get updated every few years with revised components or design details. When it came to the 2020 updates, our designers introduced a reworked chainguard design onto all woom ORIGINAL models released post-November 2020. 💡 Here's how to work out what version is on your bike: ➡️ The version shown in the video (Hebie chainguard) has little plastic clips that wrap around the chain. ➡️ The current version consists of a black outer part with a white central part. Find out how to take this version on and off here. 🔧 Removing the chainguard Rear part 1. Loosen both axle bolts on the rear wheel with a suitable tool and slide the rear wheel forward a bit to release tension from the chain and make it easier to slide the two plastic parts in so that they can be removed. 2. First remove the rear part by sliding it forward and clicking it out of the rail on the front part. Front part 3. The front part is attached at the top and bottom to the plastic clips that wrap around the chain. Slide the front part back and click it out of the clips. Please take care, as these parts can break if they are subjected to too much force. Chain 🔧 Installing the new chainguard set Front part 4. Install the front part by threading it into the base of the chain clips (upper and lower clips), from front to back, applying slight pressure. Rear part 5. Thread the rear part between the wheel and the chain with the open end pointing in the riding direction and click it into the rail on the front part. Now, press the rear part into the chain clips – you should hear loud clicks when you do this. ❗Important: Position the front part as close as possible to the chainwheel and the rear part close to the rear sprocket to avoid slippage and a rattling sound when the bike is being ridden. If the plastic parts have more than half a centimetre of play after installation, unclip the rear part and position it closer to the rear sprocket. You can tell that it is in the right position if the connected parts can be moved only slightly. 🧰 Tools required: 5 mm hex key or torque wrench (for the axle bolts)
