I never ever talk about "stretching" the Fascial Lines! That's because they are reinforced with a high percentage of collagen fibres and designed to transmit tension from muscle contraction thoughout the whole body! Basically, that means when we contract the muscles, by Organizing and Activating, we tap into the Fascial Lines to create Stability. And, having a lot of collagen fibres means it's going to strongly resist being stretched - and that's a good thing, when Stability is the main function! In this video, we are first of all, "sensitizing and priming" the Spiral Line in Revolved Chair pose. This helps us move into a tricky pose like Revolved Ardhachadrasana with more control and awareness of where we are in space and how we are organizing the body. You'll notice this makes the pose sustainable for longer too! If we instead focused on "stretching" that Fascial Line first, it would not have this effect. Stretching tends to de-sensitize proprioceptors, and that doesn't help us achieve steadiness in a single leg standing balance pose with a twist! Come along with me for this experiment with the Spiral Line and let me know what you notice!! And if you've been looking for a practical way to learn about how to work with the Fascial Lines check out this info on my Movement Template online course which is available now!!
