Friday, December 12, 2025 "Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isaiah 41:10) "Do not fear" is one of the most common commands in the Bible. And with good reason. Whenever anyone in the Bible came face to face with God, they realized, "You're God, and I'm so not," and that thought overwhelmed them. They got as low as they could as fast as they could. "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." (Hebrews 10:31) The command -- and encouragement -- not to fear is surprising. All of us have offended Almighty God by our thoughts, words, attitudes, and actions. If we anger a powerful human being, we can expect retaliation. Not so with God. God promises His presence and strength those who humbly trust and follow Him. He urges us to run toward Him in times of trouble and find comfort, rather than run away in fear. God wants us to know that He wants the very best for us. (Jeremiah 29:11; Romans 8:28; Philippians 4:19) To clarify, feeling no fear in a truly scary situation is probably foolhardiness rather than fearlessness. You can be brave even while feeling fear. The key is not letting fear paralyze us, but standing firm with faith. When you're afraid, don't panic. Lift your eyes off of your problem, and onto God. Trust Him to get you through. "Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
