Last time we saw crows in the park. They were rummaging along the path, interested in every single crumb. In our city, crows have multiplied significantly and are now almost everywhere. They eat almost anything, and when they can, they also raid pigeons’ nests. Video content: 00:00 Sketching / Drawing 00:41 Painting Crows – Ink + Water Brush + Watercolor 02:05 Painting the Background: Gray and Green Grass Thrushes are disappearing from the city as well, and I have the feeling that they are declining mainly because of the crows. I do not have this confirmed, but I think so. There used to be many ducklings and young swans on the lakes, but they often disappear too. More than once we have seen how cruelly crows can solve it and end the life of a swan chick or a young pigeon. It is an interesting situation. The crow is an omnivorous predator with a wide range of possible food, and I am curious when this will start to resemble Hitchcock’s film The Birds. So, just in case, I painted them today. It is a quick sketch. I painted the base with a pen, and the rest with watercolor paints using a water brush. In the watercolor painting, we see three crows moving along a path near water. The setting is only lightly suggested: gray-blue areas represent the water surface or a wet ground, and green patches along the edges suggest grass and the bank. The composition is open, without a fixed frame, as if it were a quick visual record from observation. The crows are shown in different poses—one is walking, another is bending down to the ground, the third is standing sideways—which creates a sense of movement and constant searching for food. The drawing is a combination of watercolor washes and thin line work that reinforces the shapes of the legs, beaks, and outlines of the bodies. The colors are muted: black, brown, and gray on the birds contrast with the soft gray-blue and green washes of the background. The brush works freely; in places the strokes and the bleeding of water are visible, which supports the feeling of a damp, cold environment. The painting does not feel decorative but rather documentary—it captures an ordinary yet telling scene: birds systematically searching through a human space in an effort to find something to eat. #watercolorpainting #painting #art #crows Subscribe for more art from: Watercolor Painting by Lubica Vesela 🎨 / @lubica.vesela
