Potosi Mountain Summit via Western Cliffs Ridgeline, Spring Mountains, Nevada | Visit https://lasvegasareatrails.com/potosi... | In this initial exploration you will see how to attain the far West beginning of the Potosi Mountain Western Cliffs Ridgeline. There is actually an obscure unmarked trailhead at the upper end of Potosi Spring Road. This trail, I believe may have been originally constructed for mule traffic to cart supplies to Potosi Mine, takes you up to the Potosi Mine area. The Potosi Mine history is related in this video. I call this the Potosi West Trail. It summits the beginning of the Western Cliffs Ridgeline at what I believe to be the roadbed that upon which the track of the Potosi Mine baby gauge railroad was laid. From this point you’ll see views of the roadbed continuing to the opening of the Potosi Mine. However, on this day I cross that roadbed to continue upward along the Western cliffs ridgeline. Faint use trails appear and disappear along the way. There is a series of 6-7 bluffs to navigate along the ridgeline. Today I navigated around the first 3 bluffs to a point about 1,800ft below Potosi Mountain summit. On the West and the East side of the third bluff there is evidence of an approach route emerging from below in the Potosi Canyon Road area. The third bluff is also interesting in that there is a cave-like niche in the cliff that could serve as an awesome camping area to spend a night with incredible views all around! I predict it would take another 2 hours to reach Potosi Mountain summit. The three summits (North, Mid and South) with their communications towers are clearly visible in this video as is the maintenance road leading to the summits from the Good Springs area to the South. This adventure on foot begins and ends at the intersection of Hwy 160 and Mt. Potosi Canyon Road. The total distance is between 15-and-20-miles round trip. Taking a good 4WD vehicle to the trailhead at the upper end of Potosi Spring Road, once could cut off about 10 miles of that round trip distance leaving ample time for the approximately 7–8-hour round trip from the Potosi West Trailhead to Potosi Mountain Summit and back.
