Potosi Mountain NW Approach Initial Exploration, Spring Mountains, Nevada | Visit https://lasvegasareatrails.com/potosi... | Locate the NW approach to Potosi Mountain Summit beginning in the Potosi Spring area of Potosi Canyon Road. To get to this location take Hwy 160 from Las Vegas toward Pahrump. As you reach the highest point in the road before the descent to Pahrump begins, take a left onto Potosi Canyon Road, an unpaved road that is best traveled by 4WD. Travel about 4 miles on Potosi Canyon Road. You’ll reach a high point and then begin descending. Look for a large hill and ridge just beyond Camp Potosi. There are a few parking spots on the left side of the road on the other side of the ridge. This is the Potosi Spring area. If you reach an A-Frame cabin you’ve gone about 1/8th mile too far. The hill that was just beyond Camp Potosi is the start of a long fairly gradual crescent-shaped ridge that will take you to the left base of the distinctive large cliff face above. This is how far I got in this video, to the base of the cliffs. To summit Potosi Mountain via this NW route you will circle around behind the left side of the cliff face. There will be an opening there between that cliff and another cliff further to the left. Take the opening upward to summit Potosi Mountain. The stretch between the cliff base and the summit is about 700 vertical feet of class 3 climbing and scrambling. I did not take this final stretch today but instead circled around the lower hills back to the high point on Potosi Canyon Road. Still recovering from a 26+ mile adventure from Lee Canyon to Bonanza Peak last week! I’ll return to summit Potosi Mountain on this route probably next Spring.
