Potosi Mountain Northern Cliffs Trail, Spring Mountains, Nevada | Visit https://lasvegasareatrails.com/potosi... | Skirting the Northern cliffs of Potosi Mountain at the South end of Nevada’s Spring Mountain Range is a very nice trail with spectacular views on the Mt. Charleston Wilderness, Rainbow Mountains, La Madre Mountains, Sheep Range, Gass Peak, Northern Las Vegas and more. Curiously, this great trail begins in the middle of wilderness area at the base of Potosi Mountains cliff ridge. To get to the trail you need to traverse a couple miles of wilderness area either via a wash or a ridge that parallels the wash. I prefer the ridge route even though there is no trail on much of the ridge until you get close to the cliffs. However, the ridge route has a better view and much better surface. Once you reach the cliff line the good trail appears and heads to the left (East) along the base of the cliffs. Someone, I suspect Boy Scouts, has painstakingly placed large boulder stairways up a few steep sections…some stairways being 30 feet or longer. That’s a lot of boulders to move! There are a few spots where the trail narrows along the cliff edge with an exposed drop-off, so this may not be the best choice for a family hike or for someone experiencing mobility issues. There are also a few brief 5ft class 3 sections along the exposed cliff area. However, for the most part, this is a great well-constructed trail. Along the way there are a few potential summit approaches I will return to explore. If you have not been on the Potosi North Trail, a trip there would be well rewarded.
