Thanks @MichaelSokil for lending me this 2016 Gretsch Country Gentleman! Soldier of Love was an Arthur Alexander song the Beatles covered as early as 1962. The most famous version is their Live At The BBC version that was released on the 1994 box set They recorded this live version on July 2, 1963 for Pop Goes the Beatles, a radio show. By this time, George had his Gretsch Country Gentleman. Before May of '63 he was using his Gretsch Duo Jet I believe John used his Gibson J-160e acoustic-electric on the song. It's got a very woody tone compared to his Rickenbacker 325, although the rest of the songs performed that day seem like songs that he would've used his 325 on John would've likely been using his Vox AC-15 Twin amp, and George would've been using his Vox AC-30. I'm using my 2010's Vox AC-30C2X with alnico blue speakers, for both guitar parts I'm using my 1966 Gibson J-160e with all the knobs at 10. And Michael's Gretsch Country Gentleman for George's parts INTERESTING NOTES: 0:00 The second note John plays (a C-sharp) contains an open G-string note by accident 0:10 John doesn't finish the intro riff on E, B, E. Instead he plays a B major chord, using two strings. On the A and D strings, he plays a B5 X24XXX. Then he plays X21XXX, then goes back to B5. I think he assumed the intro ended on a B chord, leading back into E on the verse. But George plays the normal E, B, E 0:17 For almost the entire song, John plays E as XX6454 0:21 George plays sparsely, using high bar chords for C-sharp minor and E 0:35 John releases his pinky, playing XX4454 before going back to E 0:45 During the B sections, George does low E string licks between the E and G-sharp chords 0:58 George plays an E6 chord during moments of each A section- X79999 1:54 John hits the C-sharp minor chords early for the outro MY GEAR: 2016 Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman G6122-62 GE 1966 Gibson J-160e Vox AC-30C2X Neumann TLM-103 Condenser Thanks for watching!
