Like many other brands, Lumix cameras have lots of built in picture profiles. There are no fewer than 11 presets on my Panasonic G95, including v-log l! As I normally just use the standard or natural profiles, I thought it would be interesting to test out all the different looks you can get with all of buit-in picture profiles. For this experiment I filmed several scenes around my home town of Albany, with my Panasonic G95 on a tripod and using the same settings for every shot. These are the stock Lumix picture profiles - I haven't made any changes myself. What do you think of the results? My favourite is the l.monochorme d because I love that really contrasty black and white look. I was a bit surprised that some of the picture profiles were quite similar, but I put that down to the rather flat light on the day. The v-log l was a bit of a disappointment due to how easily you end up with banding or blotchiness when colour grading. I've encountered this before and it's a common issue with 8-bit colour cameras (such as the G95) and logs. In my opinion it's a marketing gimmick, designed to divert criticism away from the G95's 4k video crop! My top tip for getting good colours from any camera is to set white balance manually. It's usually pretty straightforward to do, so carry a white or grey card with you and you'll get better results everytime. I hope you enjoy this little test of the Lumix picture profiles.
