Have you ever wondered... What is my gear ratio? ...Maybe Mongo only one who contemplate these type of questions from the universe. Mongo BIG TAHNK YOU to anonymous doner to the Mongo Fix donation center. If you Like Mongo Fix, you or anyone else can donate. You can go to Go fund me and search Mongo fix (you should recognize the page) or just follow this link - https://gofund.me/b54e05a0 Mongo start with sharing some basic info about the GM 14 Bolt. Step 1 lift the back of the vehicle Step 2 Put your transmission in neutral (or remove rear driveshaft) Step 3 Rotate your pinion (assuming no issues with brakes or bearings) Step 3 Option A IF both tires move at the same rotation you have a posi-trac or locker. This means both tires need to be off the ground and only need to rotate the tires 1 time. Step 3 Option B IF only 1 side tire moves then you have an open differential. This means for this check you will need to hold 1 wheel still and rotate the other tire 2 times. Step 4 Put a mark on the yoke for the pinion rotation and put a mark on the tire that will be monitored for rotation Step 5 Rotate the pinion (or driveshaft) until the tire rotates 1 or 2 times (based on results from Step 3) In this video example the tire had to rotate 2 times because the differential is open. We rotates the Pinion and counted about 3 and 3/4 rotations so it about 3.73 gear ratio. There are SO MANY different gear ratio for a GM 14bolt axle, this will get you close but not exact. The easiest way is to get the number from the RPO sticker or the tag on the axle. Sometimes those are not available and sometimes people change gear ratios so the only way to know 100% is to open the rear differential cover and count the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear. Hopefully this video help you if you want to get a rough idea what the rear axle ratio is on your truck. If you like this video, be sure to like this video.
