On 02.11.2023, James Connelly (University of Hull, UK) gave the talk "Does Thinking Make it So? Gentile's philosophy and fascism" with the Centre for Philosophical Studies History. This is the recording of the talk and the discussion. Abstract Is there a connection between Gentile’s philosophy and his fascism? Many have thought there was; but was his fascism the logical outcome of his philosophy? This paper will examine a particular paper by Gentile, ‘The Transcending of Time in History’, relating it both to his theory of mind as pure act and also to R.G. Collingwood’s evaluation both of this paper and of Gentile’s attitude to fascism. • Homepage: https://www.oulu.fi/en/university/fac... • Twitter: / cpshoulu • Facebook: / • Blog: https://www.oulu.fi/en/blogs/philosop... • Master’s programme History Culture and Philosophy: https://www.oulu.fi/centreforphilosop... • Visiting scholars programme: https://www.oulu.fi/en/university/fac...
