Unconventional lipid-antigen recognition by group 1 CD1-restricted T cells Dr Adam Shahine, Monash University This webinar explores emerging mechanisms of lipid antigen presentation and T-cell recognition mediated by group 1 CD1 molecules, with a particular focus on CD1c. Drawing on recent structural, biochemical, and lipidomic insights—including findings reported in Nature Communications—the talk examines how CD1-restricted T cells recognise complex lipid antigens beyond classical peptide–MHC paradigms. Key themes include: • Non-peptide antigen presentation through CD1 and MR1 systems • Structural models of CD1–TCR interaction and docking mechanisms • Novel insights into CD1c-mediated ganglioside presentation • Integration of lipidomics, mass spectrometry, and cryo-EM in antigen discovery • Implications for infection, autoimmunity, cancer, and tissue immunity This webinar series is part of the Unravelling T Cell Recognition: Insights from Immunology and AI webinar series — an ImmunoIntelligence initiative dedicated to making rigorous immunology at the interface with data science, technology, and AI openly accessible to a global audience.
