Adventurous big band featuring renowned performers from Scandinavian jazz. Sofia Jernberg vocals, Signe Emmeluth alto saxophone, Eirik Hegdal saxophone/clarinet, Kjetil Møster saxophone/clarinet, Espen Reinertsen saxophone/bass clarinet, Eivind Lønning trumpet, Øyvind Brække trombone, Josefin Runsteen violin, Marianne B. Lie cello, Kit Downes synthesizer, Marta Warelis piano, Gard Nilssen drums, Håkon Mjåset Johansen drums, Ole Morten Vågan bass/compositions. Trondheim Jazz Orchestra is one of the most important big bands in Norway, with international impact thanks to projects with legends such as Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, and Joshua Redman. In the orchestra we recognize Scandinavian jazz adventurers that have appeared on our stage before with their own projects, such as Sofia Jernberg, Signe Emmeluth, and Gard Nilssen. Artistic director since 2017 is double bassist Ole Morten Vågan, who will now present his own compositions. Ole Morten Vågan has already written two albums for the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Happy Endlings (2018) and its sequel, Plastic Wave (2021). ‘The concept behind this album came about right after writing the music from Happy Endlings, which spun around a sort of end time scenario where the main characters are happily unaware of the impending doom that awaits them’, says Ole. ‘This may seem like a gloomy backdrop for an album, but it also has an inherent comic side to it, a sort of apocalyptic slap stick humour that I enjoy a lot.’ This concert is part of Big Sounds Amsterdam. Big Sounds gives way to bands and orchestras that literally fill the entire stage. They take up the challenge with new sounds and influences for which they want to make everyone enthusiastic. Big Sounds spreads over five concert nights at five top locations.
