Watering Your New Swimming Pool Shotcrete or Gunite Installation - Swan Pools

Gunite and shotcrete are essentially the same end product; the only difference is the application. As a new pool owner, it’s important that you water your shotcrete shell two to three times a day for 14 days the day after your pool has been shotcreted. Doing this strengthens your shotcrete shell and prepares it to be filled with water. Follow these steps to water your shotcrete: 1. Use a garden hose without a spray nozzle attached. Hose attachments create too much water splash and don’t effectively soak the shotcrete. 2. Turn the water tap all the way to the right for full force. 3. Begin watering at the top of the pool wall. Notice how the shotcrete absorbs the water immediately. Continue watering in one place until the water flows down the wall, to the floor. Move along the perimeter of the pool, soaking the shotcrete along the way. Be sure to water all steps, benches and seats as well as the wall between the pool and spa on both sides. Water the face of the walls of the pool and the floor. If you feel uncomfortable moving around the pool, please find someone who can do this for you. 4. Don’t let the water accumulate at the bottom of the pool. The ponding of water is unhealthy and may pose a threat to children if allowed to fill to 18” deep. If you notice an accumulation of water that causes you concern, there are several brands of affordable sump pumps available at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other home improvement stores. 5. Do the same procedure two to three times a day for the first 14 days after the pool has been shotcreted.
