IS CELSIUS GOOD OR BAD? AND SHOULD RUNNERS DRINK IT? Celsius is an energy drink. In particular, it is a low-calorie thermogenic energy drink, which means its ingredients may help burn fat by raising body temperature a half a degree. Doing so can burn additional calories at rest and during exercise. Celsius contains several active ingredients meant to increase energy in what the Celsius company calls its “MetaPlus Proprietary Blend.” It also contains vitamins and minerals though not enough to make a positive health impact our experts say. The drink contains many stimulants, though the company doesn’t make clear the exact amounts of the stimulants in their proprietary blend. This plus the lack of research on the health effects of the combination of these stimulants make registered dietitians caution consumers. If you use it as a pre-workout drink before running, do so sparingly, they suggest. Children should not consume Celsius and it should not be consumed regularly, the RDs advise.
