No deaths, no bosco. Featuring burst fire gk2 + special powder boomstick + pheromone nades in Sandblasted Corridors. Title is clickbait - sorry. Burst first gk2 had nothing to do with the success of this run lol. It's entirely on the back of special powder being stupid and pheromones also being stupid. --- Step aside, OPA drak. There's a new king of the dumpster. Burst fire gk2 is reaaaallly bad. Like, truly. I've been on the lookout for horrible overclocks for my "big dumpy" series, and this new legend probably makes the cut for scout as it's absolutely a stinker. I still believe that you could DOUBLE the current damage (not just a piddly +2 like they eventually relented on during experimental tests) and it would still be worse than all of the actually decent scout primaries. Burst has some serious downsides that are implicit to being forced to shoot in this style (aka, not just the ones the OC actually tells you about in the scary red text). Even if the damage was good enough to kill things (which it isn't, regardless of having the new haz5 tankiness modifier enabled), you'd still have to contend with being much weaker against waves of many enemies at once. It would be slightly more palatable if the burst fire was attached to a secondary reload mechanic (holding R for a bit, like many other new overclocks do), but as it stands you're forced into some real nasty breakpoint/timing interactions. If you get a wave of many things at once, you no longer can flick between them quickly due to the mandatory cool down period between allowed bursts, and this makes you far worse than base overclock-less gk2 against things like swarmers or even decent size waves of grunts. The gun being a peashooter (which it sorta inherited from base gk2, to be fair), means it can't handle single targets either. You're forced to waste several bursts to handle a single dangerous enemy, all the while that enemy is free to move around and require you to aim/track more because even with the stun mod, the stun is RNG. And the slow going nature of this encounter means every other bug you haven't gotten around to yet has caught up and forces you to reposition, and guess what the main thing you've been shooting for 20 minutes is still at large and on the FBI's most wanted list alongside hippies, communists, and anyone with a PhD in anti-funko pop studies. This piddly single target is WITH skimping on the armor break mod in favor leaning into full weakpoint btw. And that is one of the two good things that gk2 provides in my opinion - armor clear and battle frenzy. Both of which are definitely hard countered by burst fire in a way that just makes the gun feel so much worse than normal. Now, you could make the argument that my setup isn't optimal. And I'd agree. I'm happy to hear suggestions of build tweaks in the comments (seriously, share em if ya got em). But I don't think there's anything on the gk2 mod tree that would convince me otherwise nor push me towards thinking it's any semblance of good. It's weak against waves, it's abysmal into swarmers, and the single target DPS is not there either. It's easily the worst overclock of season 5, and is basically nothing but downside. --- New map type talk: I like it. Treasure hunting is pretty fun, and I appreciate that there's some new unique gameplay in the search that we haven't had before. (I suspect my opinions might change a bit on a biome with 3 hit terrain lol). Special powder makes the final portion so stupid it's a crime. If you're newer to the channel - I have quite a few uploads where I use special powder to break the intended flow of the game (look for "illegal" XYZ in the titles). Honestly I kinda hate this overclock because it enables crime to an absurd degree - even if you shy away from the real exploits you can pull off with it. But I felt obligated to share this run because this was me trying it out thinking "yeah I bet special powder will break this too", and sure enough it does. So there ya go. "Players will optimize the fun out of the game" --- Misc: I shouldn't have taken the jet boots. I wanted to see the interaction between spowder and the jets for science purposes, and I've concluded it's a terrible anti-synergy. Also the jets killed my fast extract. I am so scientific right now. If you see me moving sloppily early in the treasure hunt portion and getting hit, it's me staring at the indicator UI and trying to disrespect bugs lol. Pro tip: use waypoints with Ctrl+E to mark suspected spots in case you need to run away.
