In this video we discuss: L'Instant de Guerlain pour homme eau extreme by ‪@guerlain‬ Let’s begin the inaugural episode with this unicorn from 2005. L’instant de guerlain pour homme eau extreme. Citrus, Anise & chocolatey patchouli. It has depth, character and uniquely juxtaposes these conflicting notes against one another in a well blended & potently projecting package. L’Instant de guerlain literally translates to ‘The moment of Guerlain’ and this is the eau extreme, which i guess translates to ‘The extremely watery moment of Guerlain’...oh French people, your language is hurting my brain. This is a unicorn because: It’s hard to find It’s a super nice scent The 2 subsequent reformulations have changed it substantially It’s almost universally loved But I’m not really here to talk about the scent, there have been countless others who have already done that & a few have done a decent job of it. No, I’m here to tell you to forget about this fragrance. Forget it! If you have had this in the past, let it go. If you have a bottle of this now, wear it and enjoy it. If you have never smelled this and are interested, get the current EDP, you will be happy with it. BUT, don’t be curious. Sometimes these reformulated and discontinued fragrances get absolutely praised to bits in online eulogies, and yes, this deserves the praise but no, it doesn’t deserve your money, at least not at the current asking prices on the grey market. The majority of all the glowing praise this receives occurred DURING the time it was still in production which means people were incorporating the judgement of the fragrance based on the entire package, which means, the scent, the packaging, the marketing, and yes, the price. This was still available at a reasonable price at that time, and if that were still the case, I’d say BUY IT OMG BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT! BUT! It isn’t. The pricing is completely exaggerated along with your misguided sense of objectivity. You might think to yourself, ‘Raffi, you’re so wrong, I can judge a fragrance based on the scent alone’; to that I say, have fun in cloud cuckoo land because that’s where you live. We’re not machines yet, even though we’re trying hard to emulate our image of god in them. We’re still susceptible to biases, we’re still predictably irrational, we’re still, people, and people do dumb shit. Now buying LIDGE at $700 for a partially used bottle is the definition of dumb shit, this is why i’m not surprised when I actually see them being listed at this price. Like I said before ‘Forget this fragrance’. Is there a better alternative? Not better but as i mentioned before you can get the current EDP of this and it is a fine fragrance indeed. Is it this? No, not even close To those of us who do own a bottle of this, I urge you to wear and enjoy it, share it, let people smell it so that more people can experience a real olfactory gem, so that you can have a shared experience. Because every time you do, you are having that moment, the moment, the moment of Guerlain, the moment of laughter, the moment of joy, the moment of love, the moment of sorrow, the moment of pain, the moment of satisfaction; but once it ends, that moment has passed and it’s time to move on. Move on to where? Well, the view of the horizon is vast when you’re standing on the shoulders of a giant.
