Next up in the East Riding is a village which has been described by some as the "best village in England". A bold claim, but trust me, I think it may well be up there with the best after this walk around it. Nestled as it it between the large village of Thorngumbald and the smaller Ottringham, this one quietly goes about its business like it has done for years on end. Generally that meant the blacksmiths, the joiners and the millers could all get on with their lives pretty much uninterrupted in times gone by. These days the residents of this self sufficient village hail more from the city of Hull, people who are wanting a more rural way of life are flocking to places like this because of well...just how nice it is, I guess. I would take it as a compliment, if I was a native. Here they have the luxury of a main road with a good link to both Hull and Withernsea, so commuting is no issue. They also have a large playing field where they can watch Holderness Vikings play rugby, an Anglican church and a Methodist Church, lots of little local shops and amenities, and perhaps the best thing - The Garth - a small garden right in the middle of the village which is a nice peaceful spot for all to enjoy. At either end of the village is a nursery, with strawberries being the main product that's grown out here. The land has always been agricultural though and even now there's lots of land out in the "marsh", the area towards Sunk Island and hamlet names Salthaugh, which is still used as such today. Come and relax in The Ship Inn or the The Blue Bell, and enjoy the surroundings of one of Holderness' bigger settlements - the parish of KEYINGHAM. ***SILHOUETTES*** Mary Poppins and her ‘friends’ were made and installed by villager Ellie Kirk’s father, Duncan. The family have made them all and placed them all around our village. These are they, with their locations. This is also the order of them being put up: 1 Little girl and her butterfly (Richwood Salon, Main Road) 2 Fairy (Magintys, Main Road) 3 Little boy and his teddy (Residents house (Tracey), Main Road) 4 The kissing Couple (Alphrya Visual Audio Ltd, Main Road) 5 Mary Poppins (Residents House (Kris and Becky), Jasmine Cottage, Station Road) 6 Honey Bee (Residents House (Dave and Julia Cooper), Coopers Corner, Marriet Way) 7 Winnie the Pooh (Residents House (Susan and Graham Dughan), Storrs House, Chapel Lane) 8 Little boy and his dog (the Ship Inn, Main Road) 9 The cool cowboy (Blue Bell, Main Road) 10 Little boy and his hobby horse (Flames, Main Road) **** My name is Andy.
