This is my first backwards POV of it's a small world at Disneyland from June 2025. This provides a unique perspective not intended by WED. This is why it's not quite as heavily detailed as the forward, left, & right perspectives. This was during the 2 month period after the end of the 2025 refurb in May, & before the addition of the final verse by Richard Sherman on July 17. It was made by Walt Disney & Unicef to give us a better understanding of the world's cultures & children. It shows how we are all very similar, & why there is no need for any kind of hate or prejudice towards people of other nations, skin tones, & religions. Originally made for the 1964-65 World's Fair, it was relocated to Fantasyland on May 28, 1966. It features many audio animatronic children from every continent. During the tour they sing the song, it's a small world. Walt's favorite composers, Richard & Robert Sherman, were asked to create this simple but powerful song in 1963. Their talent, & the compositions of Bobby Hammack & Buddy Baker, & the artistic direction of Mary Blair, Rolly Crump, Alice & Marc Davis, make this a true masterpiece. The song is designed to be easily translated to different languages. There are 5 vocal languages, which are sung in various portions of the ride in their respective regions. Swedish & British English in Northern Europe, Italian in Southern Europe, Japanese in East Asia, English in Africa, Spanish in Latin America, & English again in the Finale, with 35 unique instrumentals native to these, & many other countries & regions around every continent of the globe, in addition to the main instrumentals in the Welcome/Finale/Goodbye rooms, & the multicultural queue music. The message of Peace on Earth through understanding other people is portrayed thru many children all having similar kinds of fun in their native regions, followed by a Grand Finale where, with all borders removed, the message of it's a small world & Peace on Earth is reinforced for many guests, giving them a better perspective of the world around them. The Finale includes an impressive symphony & children/adult chorus audio, vibrant colors that flash back & forth, the one moon & golden sun above, & the amazing quantity of audio animatronic dolls. One of my favorite improvements to this ride in many years was in late 2022, when 2 dolls in wheelchairs were added to the Finale & Central America scenes. Shortly after this was filmed, the last verse replaced the first in the Finale & Goodbye rooms on July 17, 2025, Disneyland's 70th birthday, by Richard Sherman. The new verse is a great fit for the ride & I think it's well integrated into the classic soundtrack, replacing the 1964 Finale vocals & keeping the rest of the soundtrack intact. The white & gold façade is also a big draw for many including myself, with its spinning flowers, world landmarks, & clock tower that has a parade every 15 minutes. The great area music is also well made, by Buddy Baker in 1966. Actually, most of the soundtrack dates back 2 years further, to the original version at the 1964-65 World's Fair. The South Pacific, North Pole, Welcome/Goodbye rooms, & façade were added in 1966. There have been some changes over the years, even if much of the ride looks like it always has. The façade changed colors from white & gold (1966-77), white, gold, & blue accents on the clock tower (1977-92), multicolored pastels (1992-2002), then back to basically the original white & gold since 2002. The Welcome & Goodbye rooms also changed drastically 4 times from 1968 through 1999, & so did the Finale colors, c.1979, & 2008. In November 1997, it's a small world Holiday overlay was introduced, & has been a yearly hit ever since. For most of 2008, the ride was closed for a major refurbishment. This was to repair the flume, many worn sets and lighting, & what I consider the pointless decisions of adding the Disney IP characters and Spirit of America room. I feel this way because the America room goes against Walt's wish of not including a major America scene in the ride, which is supposed to be about appreciating & respecting other cultures. The room isn't as well done or detailed as the rest of the ride either. The IP characters feel tacked on, as if their only purpose is to make even more synergy between unrelated films & this ride. The ride just came out of its most recent refurb, where they did a great job improving lighting & maintenance is now much better than it was from the mid 2010's thru 2024. It's my favorite ride in Disneyland because of how it gets its message across to audiences, the amazing art style & technological innovation. I think the message of this attraction is something very important that many more people need to live by, as if that was true, the world would be a much better place. I hope you enjoy it! I do not own any audio used in this video. All audio is owned by Disney. Video taken by me, feel free to use it in your own content if you wish.
