Copyright of Spencer Tsai's compositions -- all rights reserved and protected by law. Spencer's piano channel / @spencertsaipianist6284 We are glad to have professional bass Mr. Eric Hominick to sing this German art song with Johann Wolfgang von Gothe's poem " - "Geistes-Gruß" which was composed by Spencer at 10 years old. It was performed in " "Spencer's Violin Compositions & Art songs" recital in Richmond Alliance Church on Feb.21,2015. The piano accompanist was Mr. Henry Huang. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ( 1749 –1832) was a famous German writer and poet. He had a great effect on the nineteenth century in European literature. Spencer enjoys western poems and art songs very much. He also enjoys the beautiful arias of western composers. His heart has always been touched profoundly by them. Spencer can feel the melodies inside the beautiful poems while reading on them. He would like to promote beautiful poems in different cultures with his beautiful art songs and let more people enjoy them. He tries his best to write art songs in different languages along with their exceptional styles to convey their distinctive beauties. "Geistes-Gruß" Hoch auf dem alten Thurme steht, Des Helden edler Geist, Der, wie das Schiff vorübergeht, Es wohl zu fahren heißt. „Sieh, diese Senne war so stark, Dieß Herz so fest und wild, Die Knochen voll von Rittermark, Der Becher angefüllt; Mein halbes Leben stürmt’ ich fort, Verdehnt’ die Hälft’ in Ruh. Und du, du Menschen-Schifflein dort, Fahr immer, immer zu.“ Translation -- "The Spirit's Salute" The hero's noble shade stands high On yonder turret grey; And as the ship is sailing by, He speeds it on his way. "See with what strength these sinews thrill'd This heart, how firm and wild! These bones, what knightly marrow fill'd! This cup, how bright it smil'd! "Half of my life I strove and fought, And half I calmly pass'd; And thou, oh ship with beings fraught, Sail safely to the last!" Spencer’s neo-classical music series would like to contribute to traditional classical music with new elements and creative energy. At the same time, we also expect his efforts can inspire the children and parents in this new generation of twenty-first century to think about what is music really for people and then come together to enjoy composing new music to bring a vibrant future in classical music world.
