The anticipation is over as we strode out on a fine April day onto the magnificent South West Coast Path (SWCP). Andy, my old school pal and walking partner, and me had decided this was going to be our "big project" for retirement. A great idea with one fundamental flaw - Andy still hasn't retired! Our route today would be typical of many walks to come in that we adapted routes suggest by the SWCP Association so that we could do the whole 630 miles, or thereabouts, in around 50 walking days. Today's adapted route took us beyond the "official" end point at Porlock Weir high up onto Exmoor near the Somerset/Devon boundary at County Gate. Maybe we bit of more than we could chew as it was a tough introduction; Andy still regards this as the toughest of all walks we have done. This was a rare day-trip so we both drove the 80 miles or so there and back the same day and set in motion our system of using two cars and stationing one at either end of the walk meaning relays at the beginning and end of each walking day. Our two parking spots were on the Minehead sea front (SS 972465) where is the ample parking unless it is a busy weekend day and the car park at the Exmoor National Park Visitors Centre at County Gate (SS793486). Hope that you enjoy our film record for the day.
