Date filmed: Wednesday the 4th of December 2024 Videos filmed at: 11:17 | 11:22 | 11:26 Route: London Waterloo to Reading Line Between Staines (SNS) and Egham (EGH) Stations Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV) Filming location: B3376 Thorpe Road, Staines-upon-Thames (TW18 3FB) Featuring: @MTrains (Crossing operator: lowering 3) A near 18-month-overdue revisit to this renewed level crossing in Staines, Surrey. This was one of numerous level crossings on and around the Waterloo to Reading Line to be affected by the sweeping re-signalling project, and was fully-renewed in March 2023. The lights, barriers, and alarms are all new, but quite a nice feature (and one I genuinely appreciate despite the use of E2S 'Appello' alarms here) is the layout is practically identical to before, meaning the crossing retains much of its former identity otherwise. As is the case yet again, there are as many as four alarms, motor driven barriers, and LEDs with a fading effect here, all working in what's believed to be quite a high-voltage system. The renewal would likely have only been to do with the signalling system that was installed, as it would otherwise have been completely unnecessary with the former install only dating back to the late 2000's and perfectly fine in terms of working order. This renewal was branded to make the crossing 'safer' and 'more efficient', but in reality, there isn't much difference compared to before with it still being full barrier, and signals still being in the same place as before. Best efforts have been made to get the best shots of trains as I could with the still-quite-obscuring fencing layout at this location, but I feel I did quite well. We have M-Trains coming off break just in time for my final lowering here, once more. I hope you enjoy this trio of videos! After filming here, my day's plan completely changed after seeing a previously un-visited (by me) freight-only crossing very potentially getting used that day. My upload for tomorrow may surprise you. Stay tuned!
