A remix of Colored Pencils' theme from Paper Mario: The Origami King! Enjoy! SECRET MELODIES IN THE ORDER THAT THEY PLAY: 1. "Disco Devil" (Hole Punch's theme) from Paper Mario: The Origami King 2. Intro of "Vs. Drawcia Soul" from Kirby: Canvas Curse 3. "The Royal Theme" (original leitmotif, although this one isn't so secret of a secret melody... w) THOUGHT PROCESS: Pencils' theme had a bit of a "militaristic" vibe in my opinion, so I wanted to bring that out to the best of my ability by making it primarily with synth soundfonts. I even added a little explosion sound effect as part of the percussion, just like the explosions from the pencil-missiles. After all, that's why they say "the devil in the details," isn't it? (The Disco Devil, that is!) Finally, to really cement the "militaristic" vibe, I threw in Morse Code right at the end of the song. (It was created from here: https://morsecode.world/m/eJxjYhYTMwe... . The site lets you download the sound file, and so I just synced it up with the BPM of the song as best as I could and threw it into the remix.) As for the secret melodies... Pencils and Drawcia are both characters with strong artistic abilities. Additionally, both of them are the first in a group of six. (Drawcia was the first Soul boss; Pencils is the first member of the Legion of Stationery to be fought.) Since weak correlation is a good enough reason for me to throw in a song as a secret melody, I added the intro to Drawcia Soul's theme. (It just sounded better with her Soul's theme.) For Punch, well... It's a secret!!! Although if you listen closely to the Morse Code at the end, and look closely at the keyart, you might just be able to guess my reasoning... (Cue my mischievous laughter of mischief.) And the Royal Theme is just my signature leitmotif. Since it acts like the signature on a drawing, I put it into nearly every remix that it goes well in... Which is nearly every remix that I've ever done, so it's pretty much a guarantee that it's in any given remix. LOCALIZATION GOSSIP: (Note that I saw fanart on Pixiv before I saw the actual game, so my reaction to the English localization is a bit strange as a result.) Pencils just sounds kinda... Irritated in the English version, at least in my opinion. Thinking about it logically, though, their irritation makes sense: Mario has come to destroy the red streamer, and won't hesitate to destroy Pencils and erase their work if that's what it takes to break the end of the streamer. But in the Japanese version, Pencils' characterization is quite a bit different (which is... Actually a very normal thing that happens in localization!! You would be surprised how much work localizers have to do in order to make a really great localization.) Their first-person pronoun is ミー ("mii"; a very quirky first-person pronoun, derived from the English word "me") and they end almost all of their sentences with ざんス ("zansu"; an archaism meaning "to be.") Additionally, in the Japanese version, when Pencils is about to explode, they say something along the lines of "Art is explosion!" Which gives me a real Blast Man from Mega Man 11 vibe. One last thing... In both the English and Japanese versions of the game, Pencils' full name is "Jean-Pierre Colored Pencils the 12th". "Jean-Pierre" is a French name, and would be equivalent to the name "John-Paul" in English. To people who don't natively speak French, a French name sounds extremely fancy and exotic. However, it would sound like a plain, normal name to a French audience, so in the French version of PMtOK, Pencils' full name is "Côme Raoul Aimé Yves Oscar Nicolas Siméon de Couleur, 12ème du nom". Their first seven names are an acrostic for "Crayons" (Pencils), and combined with the rest of the name, form "Crayons de Couleur, 12ème du nom" (Colored Pencils, the 12th.)
