Gorf was a 1981 space shooter arcade game from Midway that borrowed several elements from other games, including Space Invaders and Galaxian. It utilized a novel trigger-style controller grip rather than a traditional joystick, and the game involved speech synthesis, which was still uncommon for arcade games of the time. It was ported to a number of home systems in the early to mid-80s, including to the Atari 2600 by CBS Electronics. That Atari port however is a distant cry from the arcade experience, and modern Atari homebrew developer Champ Games decided Gorf needed a redo, with the assistance of Champ's now famous "ARM" chip along with Atarivox speech synthesis support. The result was Gorf Arcade for the 2600, released in the Fall of 2022. I recently pulled down a stash of Champ Games demos, including one for Gorf, so we're giving it a try today.* Enjoy! *Sadly I don't own the Atarivox peripheral, so this playthrough does not include voice synthesis Buy Gorf Arcade on cartridge: https://champ.games/store/ols/product... ...or on digital: https://champ.games/store/ols/product...
