This Was The Pilot’s Dream Trip I flew my 80-year-old Aeronca Chief from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lakeland, Florida for the 61st annual Sun 'n Fun. Three days, 1,200 miles, no autopilot, and no solid overnight plans—just a deep love for flying and a belief in the aviation community. From Chicago to Cincinnati, Nashville, Atlanta, and Daytona, we zig-zagged our way south, relying on the kindness of pilots and strangers who welcomed us with open hangars and warm beds. Not once did I sleep on a couch at an FBO. This trip reminded me why I love general aviation—and the people who make it special.
