How do I Reparent My Teenage Inner Child? Inner child work is one of the most HEALING things we can do for our past pain and trauma. Our wounds stem from our upbringing and our childhood and this is WHY it is important to go back to the pain and reparent ourselves in those difficult moments so that we can HEAL the pain. This is the process of reparenting the inner child. But…. Sometimes that pesky, rebellious teenager gets in the way. Sometimes we can’t REPARENT the inner child because we can’t connect with that child version of ourselves. All we can envision is that teenage version of ourselves. The one that is moody, broody, hormonal, and hasn’t grown out of their awkward years and into their beauty. But we CAN REPARENT and, thus, HEAL our teenage self. The process is no different than that of reparenting the inner child. In fact, sometimes we MUST heal the teenage self first so that we can gain access to that younger, more frightened version of ourselves.
