STUNTS (4D Sports Driving) for MS-DOS

STUNTS (aka 4D Sports Driving) was released for MS-DOS PC's in 1990 and developed by Distinctive Software Inc (DSI) STUNTS is basically a mashup of DSI's previous Test Drive games mixed with the gravity defying stunt driving found in Atari's Hard Drivin' released in the arcades in 1989. While Hard Drivin' was revolutionary in the Arcades, STUNTS was able to bring similar smooth real-time 3D gameplay home and do it BETTER than all the home ports of Hard Drivin' that came out around the same time. STUNTS was an impressive feat for the home PC in 1990 to be sure and as such is a well known DOS game for anyone who owned a PC during the early 90's. I had this game myself in the early 90's and well, to be honest, can't even remember exactly where I got it from. I didn't own the original game but rather a copy on floppy as was common at the time. I think it might have been a game I rented from the Software Library at the time. You could actually rent PC games on Floppy and in many cases install them to your Hard Drive to play them for the rented duration as only an "honor" system would ask you to uninstall the game when done renting. Granted nothing was stopping you from copying the floppy! Well except for that pesky copy protection asking you to find specific words in the manual. Without the manual you couldn't look up these words and you be blocked from running the game. This was before the vast majority of people had any type of internet connection at home and so you couldn't just look it up either. Programs like Neverlock would advertise being able to remove this type of copy protection from these games. I also had a copy of that back in the day! What a great time to be a PC owner!
