Across southern Scotland from West Lothian and Lanarkshire and on to Ayrshire, coal-filled MGR wagons still rolled across the counties. The colliery at Ravenstruther had become a facility for collection and distribution for a number of opencast pits throughout and wasn't without it's problems with regular enviromentalist protests being held. The Colliery’s former coal terminal ceased operations after Scottish Coal collapsed in 2013 and its coal-loading infrastructure was later demolished. In 2020, Cloburn Quarry Company leased the site with the intention of using it for stone and aggregate rail traffic, and in 2021 they purchased it outright, officially converting the site into a stone and rail-ballast terminal, which began operating around late 2021 to early 2022.
