This is a short narrated visual presentation of my wife and my 54 year practice of Nichiren Buddhism in the SGI-USA, a worldwide lay Buddhist organization. ABOUT NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO, NICHIREN BUDDHISM & THE SOKA GAKKAI INT'L (SGI) (adapted from http://www.Buddhability.org and http://www.sokaglobal.org) When we chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, we’re tapping into the Buddhability inside each of us, changing our lives and the people around us for the better. We are reminding ourselves that even in the face of challenges, we have the grit [and wisdom and fortune] to overcome them and accept them as part of our life. And we can inspire others to do the same with the goal of transforming our own lives, our communities and the world into a more compassionate and peaceful place. Nichiren first chanted Nam-myoho-renge-kyo in Japan in 1258 as a daily practice to relieve human suffering by revealing each person's inner enlightened or Buddha nature. In modern times, the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) is an entirely lay Nichiren Buddhist organization with ~12 million members in 192 countries and territories. It is a place to not only be known, but to be unconditionally accepted. It’s a peace movement centered on tens of thousands of community discussion meetings where you take action to grab hold of your own happiness, purpose, growth and healing while extending these things to the world. Daisaku Ikeda, was a peace-builder, Buddhist philosopher, educator, author and poet. As the third president of the Soka Gakkai lay Buddhist organization in Japan, founding president of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), and founder of several international institutions promoting peace, culture and education, he dedicated himself to bolstering the foundations of a lasting culture of peace. He was a great example how to use our Buddhist practice to achieve our own personal goals and a deeper, more absolute happiness. Ultimately, it’s not a question of if we have an inner enlightened life condition, or Buddhability, but when we choose to believe it.
