Dr. Lauren Meyers, Professor of Integrative Biology and Director of the Division of Statistics and Scientific Computation at The University of Texas at Austin, received her B.A. in Mathematics and Philosophy from Harvard University, and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at Stanford University. In 2004, the MIT Technology Review named Lauren one of the top 100 global innovators under age 35 for her pioneering work in network-based modeling of infectious disease dynamics. Meyers is now striving to save lives by reinventing the way we track and stop deadly diseases. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
