Shrek said it best: people (and ogres) are like onions—we have layers. While we may openly share and display some parts of ourselves, other aspects undoubtedly remain hidden in the core of this onion. In this TED Talk, Yoomee discusses the importance of normalizing mental health issues and creating an environment where teenagers can comfortably share their feelings and thoughts; unveiling their emotional onion core. Yoomee, a senior at United Nations International School of Hanoi, is a student leader of Bluebells, a mental health hotline providing free listening services to teenagers in Vietnam. After gaining exposure to her friend's struggle with depression, Yoomee has been an active advocate for destigmatizing the topic of mental health and increasing the accessibility of support systems and resources for teens struggling with the issue. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
