Nothing in the body does one thing. Estradiol grows the uterine lining AND it grows and repairs cells in the brain, bones, and cardiovascular system. Usually, when you have bleeding, even unplanned bleeding, while on HRT, it is a sign that you are growing and repairing cells throughout your body. But, you do need to have it monitored by a doctor and checked out if it doesn't go away with changes to your HRT regimen. The best way to control nuisance bleeding is to cycle your progesterone (two weeks on, two weeks off), so you have scheduled, predictable bleeding. Alternatively, you can keep lowering the estradiol dose and raising the progesterone until you minimize growth enough inside the uterus. The downside of this approach is that if you minimize uterine growth, you will also minimize growth factors throughout the body. That's just how it works.
