#africanews #HIVCure #CureWithoutTheWest Something amazing is going on in South Africa. We have said it and we will continue to say it: the day African countries stop depending on the West is the day the African continent begins to develop. Just a few weeks after the US President suspended aid to South Africa which was used to fund antiretroviral treatment for HIV patients, South African researchers have unveiled a groundbreaking achievement. The very first HIV Cure trial in Africa. This is remarkable and a statement to the fact that Africa can be innovative and technologically inclined. But how did they achieve this remarkable result and what does it mean for Africa? Let’s find out. Can you think of anything that Africa has successfully invented? When you talk about the list of technologically advanced countries, no one ever mentions African countries because African countries are not known for making discoveries and inventions. While there are several African individuals with innovative ideas that can solve real challenges, in most cases these individuals and ideas are lost to the wind. Or in the worst case, taken by individuals from the West who see their true potential. And then, something that should have been made in Africa by an African would be made in the West by an African. The reason for this situation is the fact that most African leaders are too weak and not ambitious enough. You see, since Independence, African countries have become highly dependent on the West for everything including health, economic, finance, and defense needs. When an African country has a challenge, instead of looking inward, the next thing the African leader does is to seek the help of foreign countries. Think about it. African countries are among the countries with severe insecurity issues. Yet, the African Defense Industry is still at its early stages, producing only small arms and ammunition. The reason for this is because African countries have not injected adequate funding into the industry. While countries like the US, budget billions of dollars for the defense sector, in most African countries, defense only takes a fractional percent of their annual budget. As a result, African countries have remained dependent on the West to provide for their security.
