Las Vegas, Nevada. November 22nd, 1965. Pre-fight press conference. Floyd Patterson sits at a table. Two-time heavyweight champion. Olympic gold medalist. Respected. Dignified. The "gentleman" of boxing. A reporter asks: "Floyd, what do you think about fighting Muhammad Ali?" Patterson looks directly at the camera. Says coldly: "I'm not fighting Muhammad Ali. I'm fighting Cassius Clay. That's his real name. That's what I'll call him." The room goes silent. Everyone knows this is an insult. Ali changed his name three years ago. Became Muslim. Became Muhammad Ali. But Patterson refuses to acknowledge it. Refuses to show respect. Ali, sitting across the table, stares at Patterson. His face hardens. The playful Ali vanishes. Replaced by something cold. Dangerous. Ali leans forward. Says quietly: "You're gonna learn my name. I'm gonna make you say it. Over and over. For 12 rounds." Patterson smirks. "We'll see." What happens in that fight doesn't just teach Patterson Ali's name. It teaches him something darker: There's a price for disrespect. And Ali will make you pay it. Painfully. Publicly. For as long as he wants. This isn't boxing. This is punishment. And it goes on. And on. And on. Until Patterson begs. Literally begs: "Please. Stop. I'm sorry."
