How we dive...Chuuk Dive Sites: Hoki Maru This is SCUBA Dive 4 of 10 of our Adventure in Chuuk Lagoon. Chuuk Lagoon is a part of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) in the Pacific Ocean and is where the US Navy sank over 60 Imperial Japanese Navy cargo and Logistics ships during Operation Hailstorm in 1944 during WWII. The Hoki Maru is one of the most distinctive and historically intriguing shipwrecks in Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon. Originally a New Zealand vessel, it now serves as a deep-water "undersea parking lot" for World War II vehicles. The Hoki Maru is a large freighter carrying military supplies, the Hoki Maru offers a unique experience because of the heavy equipment, like bulldozers and trucks, still lying in its hold at 21-50 meters (69-165 feet). The wreck was torn apart in the attack, with massive sections still intact and others scattered across the seabed.
