Port Area, City of Manila October 23, 2025 “Each time you sail, you remind the world that the Philippines will always protect what is ours… Kaya sa ating PCG, naniniwala ako sa patuloy ninyong paglilingkod na may dangal at kahusayan para sa ating mga kapwa Pilipino,” remarked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he led the 124th Anniversary Celebration of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at Pier 15, South Harbor in Port Area, City of Manila. During his speech, the President commended the PCG for its unwavering service over the years. With around 36,000 personnel, the Organization has consistently shown courage and dedication in responding to disasters and emergencies across the country, rescuing and evacuating over a million Filipinos even during the most severe tropical storms. “From January to September of this year, you have already ensured the safe passage of almost 10 million passengers. You have confiscated nearly PhP2 billion worth of illegal drugs and smuggled items from perpetrators who prey on our people and on our system,” he said. Likewise, he lauded the PCG’s firm commitment to defending the West Philippine Sea (WPS), calling its members first responders who safeguard the safety, dignity and livelihood of Filipino fishermen. He also highlighted the PCG’s quick response during the recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Cebu. Medical teams immediately provided aid and carried out over a hundred medical interventions, while vessels and personnel delivered more than 30,000 food packs and medical kits to affected communities in Bogo City and Daanbantayan. As part of the Administration’s commitment to strengthening the PCG’s capabilities, the Chief Executive reaffirmed ongoing investments in modernizing its fleet and facilities. “We will keep investing in new vessels, aircraft, command posts, and communication systems. We will improve training, facilities, and logistics to give every PCG personnel a sense of dignity in fulfilling their mission,” he added. He also announced the establishment of the PCG General Hospital, the Maritime Law Enforcement Training Center in Misibis, and the First Responder and Nursing Service Facility, all aimed at improving the welfare of personnel both on land and at sea. In closing, President Marcos Jr. congratulated the 16 outstanding awardees honored during the event for their exemplary performance and dedication to service, urging them to continue striving for excellence and inspiring their fellow Coast Guard members.
