Discussion on Lead Hazard Reduction in Multifamily and Single Family Housing

Presented at the Homes Within Reach conference, January 12 - 14, 2021. Lead hazard reduction in housing is a challenge across the commonwealth regardless of building type or whether the occupant is an owner or a renter. Members of Governor Wolf’s Lead & Asbestos Hazard Reduction Initiative have made large strides in finding additional funds to identify children who are impacted by lead poisoning, and we will be making sure you know about these funding sources. By comparison, what is happening on the housing side? What funding is available? What is the state of public perception, the technical requirements, and the financial challenges faced by professionals doing the work? During this session we will discuss these professionals’ experiences with lead hazard reduction, from how regulations are implemented, to actually getting clearance through testing. And ask them what they need to do twice as much remediation as they did last year.
