2025 Prugråman Sinipok participants and members of our organizing team share heartfelt reflections on their Chamoru language immersion experience — what they learned, what they felt, and why this work matters. With the overwhelming majority of our fluent speakers now over the age of 60, we could face a dramatic loss of spoken Chamoru by 2050. Programs like Sinipok are part of a growing movement to ensure our language not only survives, but lives on through the next generation. Sinipok is an annual adult Chamoru language immersion program that provides tools, instruction, and resources to empower participants to give life to our heritage language. Beyond language learning, the program creates space, time, and intentional care for building community among like-minded learners and embracing our shared role in revitalizing the Chamoru language.
